Things about Jane

You might think that a successful businesswoman who owns a spa only need to lay down on a bed of roses when she feels like relaxing. Partly correct.

Singer and entrepreneur Jane Joseph
But independently strong Jane Joseph has found her ‘quantum of solace’ in something that requires stretching her vocal cords and putting words and melodies together. In one word, music.

“Music is part of my life,” she noted. “Singing is something that I love and writing songs is what makes me happy.”

A singer-songwriter who has recorded and released mostly inspirational songs, but typically with touches of cool pop sensibility, Jane is going well with the flow as far as her live act is concerned, never appearing pretentious to appease, say, millennials unappreciative of classics. She, along with the Barricade Band and DJ Mark Beats, recently performed at the Club Lounge of The City Club (of Alphaland Makati Place), giving her high-end crowd groovy renditions of throwback tracks from the ‘80s.

When she sings songs like Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach” and Rita Lee’s “Lanca Perfume,” you know she’s not doing them as required by the show’s theme, but because she knows the familiar tunes by heart.

Jane’s musical influence is actually rooted further back from the infectious pop of the ‘80s. That is why she has that loose yet classy, sexy sway on stage. She said, “At a very early age my eldest brother already let me hear jazz music.”

The performer-entrepreneur, her worth-hearing songs include “More Than Enough” and “Himig Ng Buhay,” had guest appearances in Net 25’s Letters and Music and 95.5 Pinas FM and joined forces with singer Guji Lorenzana and others in an Aliw-nominated concert in 2016. Last year she sang front act for a show featuring Kuh Ledesma and Pops Fernandez.

The relaxation, health and beauty place she manages, Laxare Day Spa, is located the third floor of SM North Edsa. Treatments include body spa, nail services, massages, and facials as Jane herself is a licensed massage therapist.

Yet, while such body therapy essentials keep her look glowing, it is music that keeps her youthful within.

“I have a lot to give and share with everyone willing to accept my songs and listen,” she openly declared, putting emphasis on the value of entertaining with compassion.

Gig hoppers can regularly witness her stage act as she does once-a-month special events at The City Club lounge managed by former PBA cager Nic Belasco.

Her first show there was a throwback Thursday in party mode with showcase of original, new compositions as breakers. One of her guest performers, Vanerie Rosales, is another singer-songwriter with jazz inclination and who just celebrated her 18th birthday with a Great Gatsby-themed party at The Elements in Centris, Quezon City.

Last year Vanerie debuted in digital platform with her ukulele-backed composition This Man I Know. As expected she sang Amy Winehouse-style at her party attended by friends and family happily sporting outfits mirroring the roaring 20s.

For all their preferences and high taste, both Jane and Vanerie are simply ‘jazz’ being themselves.
